RANGIYA, Feb 18 – An Assamese spelling competition was held here at Rangiya Raijmel premises under the aegis of Vision, a non profit organisation of the locality recently. The event, being organised for the first time at Rangiya aimed to test the knowledge of vocabulary, correct spelling of Assamese words, grammatical concept beside other verbal ability tests of the students from class VIII to XII. 151 students from different schools and colleges of Rangiya subdivision and 2 students from Dispur College, Guwahati participated in the event.
In the competition , a total three rounds of tests including two written and one oral was held to test the of verbal aptitude students in regard to Assamese words. 31 out of 153 students were selected after the first written round out of those 16 were selected for the interactive oral round after having another written competition.
Eight students were adjudged as winners on the basis of their cumulative performance shown on second and third round (oral). Himangshu Kalita of class IX from Sankardev Sishu Niketan secured the highest marks. Later, the winners were awarded with trophies, dictionaries and prize money in a function after the event where SDO (civil) of Rangiya BB Dev Choudhury, chief manager of SBI Rangiya Rajani Kt. Bharali, lecturer Dr Phukan Basumatary of Rangiya college, principal RTTC Partha Phukan Mahanta, sub teacher of RHSS Tarun Saikia, journalist Mukul Kalita, beside assistant teacher of RHSS Dina Moni Deka were present.
Earlier, SDO (c ) Choudhury and – of SBI Rangiya leaded the noble gesture undertaken by Vision for overall cause of Assamese language and towards developing an inquisitiveness in the minds of the students for building Assamese vocabulary. President Kabin Das of Vision formally hoisted the body’s flag, and senior journalist Mukul Kalita the lamp.
