International film fest in March


GUWAHATI, Feb 17 – Banking on the success of last year’s international film festival for short and documentary films, the Cine Art Society, Asom (CineASA) is gearing up to hold the CineASA International Film Festival from March 16 to 20 at Rabindra Bhavan here, stated a press release.

This year’s festival will showcase 20 highly acclaimed feature films as well as a number of short films from across the globe. The festival will hold a retrospective of famous filmmaker Wong Kar Wai (Hong Kong), pay tribute to renowned Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieslowski and focus on another master Ingmar Bergman from Sweden. It will also showcase films of Lars von Trier of Denmark, Mika Kaurismaki of Finland, Zhuanfzhuang Tian of China, Koki Mitani and Yasuo Furuhata of Japan. Moreover, it will showcase best of the short films that have won accolades in important festivals across the world including a retrospective of best of the diploma films of the FTII, Pune, the release added.

The CineASA International Film Festival will also hold a competition of short films from the Northeast and the shortlisted films from the entries will be screened under ‘North-East Shorts’ section. CineASA has constituted a five-member jury for selection of films for the package as well as for the awards.

CineASA has invited entries for the competition and intending participants may send their films, preferably in DVD format (otherwise CD), with a demand draft of Rs 500 favouring ‘Cine Art Societry, Asom’ payable at Guwahati.
