Rush of ticket-seekers for Mangaldoi LS seat

Correspondent
GORESWAR, Feb 21 – Strong resentment prevails among the people of the No 8 Mangaldoi Parliamentary constituency following the rush of ticket-aspirants of different political parties for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls as almost all the candidates are outsiders.

As many as 24 candidates from the Congress have already applied for tickets from the constituency. Among them are Madhab Rajbongshi, former MP, Lakshikanta Saikia, former MLA Dr Haren Das, Kirip Chaliha, Dwijen Sarma, Jamansingh Brahma, Silvious Kondopan, MP (RS), Chandra Kumar Sarma, ex-State election commissioner, Rajib Sarma, Shahnaj Ahmed, Proof Ruparani Bhuyan, Hiranya Bora, ex-MLA etc and most of them do not belong to the Mangaldoi. Moreover, Narayan Chandra Borkatoky, sitting MP from the BJP, an outsider could not forge a good relationship with the voters of the constituency particularly in their times of distress and faced problems. This has resulted in Borkatoky having to give up his desire of contesting once more as on MP this time. A few BJP leaders are permanent settlers of the area like Dr Narendra Nath Sarma, Dr Rabindra Hazarika, Kuladhar Saharia, Jadab Chandra Deka, Charan Deka, Jerina Barbhuyan, Pradip Thakuria and Ashokananda Singhal.

The BJP candidate would be supported by the Bodoland People Progressive Front (BPPF) led by Rabi Ram Brahma in Mangaldoi constituency. The BPF (Hagrama) which is in alliance with the Congress has decided to put in the said constituency by their (BPF’s) own candidate in the polls. The AUDF has also decided to contest in the constituency. source: assam tribune
