JORHAT, March 1: At a time when the State Government as well as the Centre emphasized on the development of education scenerio by keeping the milestone “Education for all by 2010” but sometimes it turns to travesty in most of the schemes in the Chief Minister’s home district Jorhat.
It is worth mentioning that, the Government has been tyring to improve the Education department by Asom Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA) mission and crores of rupees has been spent through this much touted project. But in reality, the SSA is too far from its goals particularly in the 6 education blocks under the office of the Jorhat Mission Co-ordinator of SSA.
The office of the Jorhat Mission Co-ordinator is constituted with 6 education blocks namely East block, Central block, Majuli block, Titabor block, Jorhat block and North-West block. There are 113 clusters and 111 Gaon Panchyat committees under these 6 education blocks to ward off the problems relating to education. But surprisingly, an official survey recorded in October and November 2008 shows that as many as 2,661 numbers of children are out of school in the said blocks. The record shows that there are 353 out of school children in East block, 146 in Central block, 574 in Majuli block, 463 in Titabor block, 388 in Jorhat block and 737 in North- West block.
Regarding this matter, talking to The Sentinel, an official of the Jorhat Mission Co-ordinator Ashim Borua said, they have been taking remedial measures to short out the out of school children or drop out children from schools by creating awareness through every Gaon Panchyat education committee and organized awareness meetings in every Gaon Panchayats. They also formed ‘Tusk Force’ in block levels and introduced a new scheme titled ‘Pray as–– 2009’ to mobilize the mother groups and student parliaments.
