GUWAHATI, March 4 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh has written to the Chief Election Commissioner for re-scheduling the dates of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Assam. While welcoming the announcement of the poll dates, the party said that in view of the festival of Rongali Bihu being celebrated for at least a week in the State from the date of commencement of the festival, it would be inconvenient to the people to participate in the voting process.
“It would be most inconvenient for the inhabitants of the State to freely participate in the elections particularly on April 16 which has been scheduled for the first phase of the polls,” said the BJP calling upon the Commission to defer the first phase of the polls to another date within the fourth week of April.
