Model Code of Conduct comes into force in NE States

KOHIMA, March 4: The model code of conduct has come into force with effect from Monday in Nagaland following the announcement of Lok Sabha polls by the Election Commission (EC).
Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C J Ponraj, in an official notification last evening, said as per the directives of the EC, the ministers should not combine their official visits with electioneering or use official machinery for that purpose. No government transport, including official aircraft, should be used in this regard.

The party in power or its candidates should not monopolise the rest houses and Dak bungalows or other government accommodations, according to the notification. Such accommodations should be allowed to be used by other parties and candidates in a “fair manner”, but no party will be allowed to hold campaign office or public meetings there.

The notification also added that advertising in newspapers at the cost of public exchequer and misuse of official mass media during election would not be allowed. It further said no fresh release of funds under MP, including Rajya Sabha, Local Area Development Fund, and MLAs Local Area Development Fund should be made in any part of the till the completion of poll process.
