STGA protests against taxing by government

DIBRUGARH, March 12: The Chabua Anchalik Samity of the Small Tea Growers’ Association (STGA) has strongly protested the decision of the state government for taxing bought leaf factories for the green leaf they buy. The tax is reportedly twenty paisa per kilogram of green leaves procured by the factory.

In a meeting of the Samity at its own office at Chabua, the government was criticized for attempting to act in a manner which will be detriment of small tea growers of the state.
At a time, when the small tea growers using their own labour and capital are trying to ease the unemployment problem, the imposition of such a tax is most unfortunate, the meeting observed.
Expressing deep resentment that the government is still not yet able to fix a procurement price of green leaves, the meeting called upon the government to reconsider the imposition of the tax. THE SENTINEL
