JORHAT, July 23: Asom Revenue Minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman visited the three upper Asom districts – Jorhat, Golaghat and Sivasagar to know about the drought like situation of the districts. In his visit, the Revenue Minister participated at a meeting held at Jorhat Circuit House with the three Deputy Commissioners– LS Changsan, MN Hussain and Haren Borah of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Golaghat respectively. In the meeting, the other department officials like Irrigation, Public Health, Water Resource, Health, Veterinary, etc. of the three districts were also present among others. Barman who was accompanied by Revenue Department Secretary VK Peparsonia has directed to all the departments concerned to take necessary steps in the draught like situation and urged them to take up special methods in cultivation and other related sectors.
Before winding up his two-day long visit to upper Asom districts, the Revenue and Rehabilitation Minister visited the flood affected areas of Majuli and talked about the various problems plagued by the people of the riverine island. At a meeting with the department officials of Majuli, held at Majuli Circuit House, the Rehabilitation Minister directed to all the departments to take all possible steps for the greater interest of the people living there. After visiting the flood breached embankments of Borbeel, Jengrai and Khersuti, Barman said about the need of a scientific embankment construction system in Majuli as a permanent solution of the problem.
