Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC)

By Staff Reporter
ITANAGAR, Oct 4: The Disciplinary Action Committee of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) is caught in a strange situation which it had never encountered earlier. In 47 Namsai (ST) Assembly Constituency, INC candidate Chow Chandra Mansai is in no mood to campaign for his own election. He has been seen either relaxing at home or campaigning for the Independent contestant Nang Sati Mein.

The ballot battle is being waged between Chau Ambika Enling (BJP), Chow Pingthika Namchoom (AITC) and Nang Sati Mein (Independent).

Sources informed that ‘the Pradesh Election Committee of the APCC had recommended only Nang Sati Mein’s name from 47 Namsai to the Central Election Committee of the AICC, even though the sitting MLA Chow Pingthika Namchoom equally deserved the recommendation. However, the central leadership of the INC denied her the party nomination and though no one says it openly, the grapevine has it that she was third in her family seeking Congress party nomination. Thus at the eleventh hour, after Chow Pingthika Namchoom declined to accept it, the Congress leadership had to literally gift the party ticket to Chow Chandra Mansai.

The Sentinel Arunachal tried speaking to a couple of leaders on the matter but in vain. However, The Sentinel Arunachal spoke to the INC candidate Chow Chandra Mansai over telephone. He confirmed the ‘strange situation’ and admitted that he has been campaigning for Nang Sati Mein.
Justifying his action, he said that he was the one who had advocated for Nang Sati Mein as the INC candidate. On the issue of party disciplinary matter, he informed that his actions are based on the instruction of senior Congress leader(s) though he refused to divulge their name(s).

Speaking on the subject to The Sentinel Arunachal, BC Tok, Secretary (APCC) and a member of the Disciplinary Action Committee of the APCC, said, ‘We are aware of the situation. And the party would take the appropriate action at appropriate time’.

Meanwhile, the APCC has issued an expulsion order on October 1, 2009 against Nang Sati Mein for a period of 6 years along with many others. It is to be seen what kind of action is taken against Chow Chandra Mansai. THE SENTINEL
