GUWAHATI, Oct 15: The BJP today named Sofiqul Hussain, an English professor of Dudnoi College, as its candidate for South Salmara constituency. Asom BJP president Ramen Deka made this announcement in New Delhi today. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubaneswar Kalita had a discussion on party candidates for the by-polls at Gogoi’s residence today. According to sources, Bhimananda Tanti, Hiranya Bora, Rathindra Dey and Kajal Bora are the front runners for Congress tickets.
The steering committee of the AGP is also meeting tomorrow to have a discussion on party candidates for the by-polls. There are as many as eight contenders for party tickets, and they include Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, Shiba Sahu and MP Joseph Toppo’s daughter Ranjita Toppo. THE SENTINEL
