Hearing on jailbreak today

SHILLONG, Oct 5: The Steering Committee Against Murder of Democracy (SCAMoD) and the State Government today made their representation to Justice D Biswas at the office of the Commission on Inquiry at Laban, Shillong dealing with the Shillong jailbreak incident on May 31.
SCAMoD, a conglomerate of several NGOs including KSU, FKJGP, SSSS, CSWO, HNYF, ICARE, was represented by its convener Agnes Kharshiing and general secretary Mary Anne Pohshna, while acting DGP P Kezo represented the government today.

Biswas said, “The government has given four months time for the inquiry; unless there are questions from the public, the inquiry will be completed within the time limit.” He added, “The case needs five terms of references.”

The SCAMoD had met on Saturday to discuss the jailbreak issue and insisted that Pradhan should not be permitted to join as the DGP, even though his 60 days’ medical leave was completed, and this is for the interest of the free-and-fair investigation by the judicial inquiry commission.

Talking to The Sentinel, SCAMoD convener Agnes Kharshiing said, “We want to know the truth regarding the incident on how the jailbreak had taken place, who was responsible for it and also the alleged encounter of Fullmoon Dhar.” Kharshiing said there will be a hearing at 11 am tomorrow at the conference room in the Secretariat.
