NALBARI, Nov 8 – The octogenarian father of ULFA’s self-styled foreign secretary Sasha Chaudhury for the first time today called upon the ULFA leadership to sit in negotiation with the Government in order to restore peace and normalcy in the insurgency-infested State. Talking to The Assam
Tribune at his Helacha residence in Nalbari district the father of the ULFA leader, Dinabandhu Chaudhury said that respecting the public sentiment the ULFA leadership should come forward for negotiation. He also called upon the people to extend cooperation to the militant outfit in the peace process. The Government also should take the initiative in the peace process, Chaudhury added.
Sasha’s mother Bhadrabati Chaudhury is very happy to see their son on the TV screen yesterday after 25 years. He maintained no contact with his family from 1984. However, Bhadrabati had seen his son for a while in 1996 when he was arrested by police.
The ULFA leader’s family feels that violence cannot bring any solution to the State. “We don’t support his surrender before the Government, we want a solution to the ULFA problems through negotiation,” the ULFA leader’s parents commented.
It may be mentioned that one of the sons of Dinabandhu Chaudhury was gunned down by secret killers in 2000 allegedly because Sasha Chaudhury belongs to that family. ASSAM TRIBUNE
