ITANAGAR, Dec 14: The prevalent communication system in the State – be it transport communication or electronic communication – has irked AAPSU out of its skin to take the matter seriously with the concerned authorities.Decrying the ‘dismal standard’ of State-run transport system in the State, the apex students’ body today blamed the authorities for poor building infrastructure of various bus stations across the State at its disposal. Citing the ill-kept Naharlagun State Transport bus station as a glaring example, it rued that one of the most potential revenue-generating departments as the State Transport department was being neglected by the authorities. It demanded the Government to provide necessary funds to revamp and renovate the existing bus stations with sitting facilities and other amenities in the interest of the commuters. The Union also fumed at the inconsistent telephone network in the State, which it claimed was adversely impacting the tourism sector. Taking strong exception to the erratic network service provided by BSNL and other private players in the State, the Union labeled their functioning as “Duping Tactics’ on innocent people of the State.
“People have subscribed to these services in order to lessen the communication bottleneck, which in turn has become one of the biggest irritants for them,” said AAPSU president Takam Tatung in a statement here this evening.
The Union felt that it was time the concerned authorities opened up their eyes while cautioning of a ‘strong’ stand by it in the interest of the people. Also expressing dismay over lack of initiatives to develop tourism as a major sector, the Union urged the Government to give it its considerable amount of interest and support. It called for setting up of hill resorts and rope ways in the vicinity of the capital complex at places like Dariya Hill like that of Shimla and Mussouri. The Union also suggested manning of water treatment plants by security personnel, particularly to those supplying water to the State capital. In order to curb the frequency of traffic accidents in the capital, the Union further suggested making functional the alternative route that passes from Gumto, Doimukh, Yupia, Pappunallah, Jully to Ganga at Itanagar for heavy vehicles.
