Tawang embodies Army-civilian bonding

TAWANG, Dec 19: Tawang, the district on the border with China, is an embodiment of bonding between the Indian Army and civilians. While the Army doesn’t miss a chance to lend its helping hand in every welfare programme of the civil administration, the latter in response is ever ready to extend its hospitality and cooperation to the Army stationed here to guard the borders.

Taking the relationship a step further, during a meeting between 190 Mountain Brigade Commander C.P. Mohanty and Deputy Commissioner Gamli Padu here today, it was accepted by both to establish civil helipads at Mago and Thingbu. The proposed helipads would be used by the Army and Air Force helicopters to land when required.

In response, the district administration agreed to maintain the Tawang-Chuje Road through the PWD and provide street lights in the Tawang Cantonment streets besides extension of power supply to Klemta, Maratha Ground and Kereteng.

Appreciating the Army, GREF and ITBP for organizing medical camps in remote circles and villages of the district, Padu, agreed to take up the proposal with the Government.

To mark the civil and military relations, Padu and Mohanty agreed to establish a ‘Maitree Chowk’ at the Tawang tri-junction.

Meanwhile, the Army agreed to assist the Forest department to prevent felling of trees and also extend its help in protecting and conservting the precious and rare rhododendrons of the area. THE SENTINEL
