Crowds throng Sahitya Sabha book fair

Correspondent
DHEMAJI, Feb 18 – From epics, classics, mythological books, biographies to competitive exam guides and dictionaries, books under each one of these categories did good business during the Sahitya Sabha Book Fair but none could match the business Mor Janma Hoa Tu Antata Sosa and Rongmilir Hahi, two of the most acclaimed literary works of new Sahitya Sabha president Rong Bong Terang. Both the books were runaway hits at the four-day fair which did a whopping business of around Rs 1 crore. Around 200 copies of each of the two books by Terang were sold out during the fair.

Sarat Bora, president, Book Fair Sub-Committee, informed that the fair drew unprecedented crowds throughout and the tickets worth over Rs 2 lakh (approx) were sold. He, however, stated that had the organizing committee of the Sabha provided proper boundaries in the area, the collection could have been far more than what it was. “The books by the new president sold like hot cakes and there was demand for more,” said Bora.

Sahitya Akademi awardee Rita Choudhury’s Deolankhui (The Divine Sword) and literary works of noted author Homen Borgohain and Anuradha Sarma Pujari also did brisk business. Most of the leading publication brands including the National Book Trust (NBT) and Banalata participated at the fair. Around 80 stalls were put up in the fair.

“I have never seen such a huge turnout in any of the book fairs in the recent past and this is a very positive sign,” said a member of the organizing committee. source: assam tribune
