Zonal award for Centre for Rural Development (CRD)

GUWAHATI, March 13 – The Centre for Rural Development (CRD) has been selected for the Joint Regional Award from the Eastern Region in the medium category for the India NGO Award 2008.

“Since its inception in 1994 at Guwahati, the CRD is endlessly involved in rendering its services in sustainable livelihood development. Rickshaw Bank is one of the flagship projects of CRD which even holds a place in the Limca Book of Records,” said Mowsam Hazarika, honorary media coordinator of CRD.

The award will be presented on March 30 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia has consented to be the chief guest at the ceremony to be organized by the Resource Alliance and the Nand and Jeet Khemka Foundation.

For social entrepreneurship and restless effort, Dr Pradip Kumar Sarmah, founder and executive director of CRD, got the Ashoka Fellowship in India, in the year 2001. He also got the invitation to delegate in the ‘India Conference 2009: The Indian Growth Story: Sleeping Elephant or Roaring Tiger?’ The programme is jointly organized by Harvard Business School (HBS) and the South Asian Business Association (SABA) to be held on March 15, 2009 at Harvard Business School, Boston, US.
