GUWAHATI, April 21 – Campaigning for the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in the State came to an end at 4 pm today. Altogether 121 candidates are in fray for the eleven Lok Sabha seats going to poll in this phase on April 23, said official sources here.
The Lok Sabha seats going to poll on April 23 include Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Guwahati, Mangaldoi, Tezpur, Nagaon, Kaliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur. In all, 1,47,29,601 voters (1,47,08,852 general and 20,749 service) are exercising their franchise in this phase of the Lok Sabha polls. Of them, 71,31,692 are female voters (71,25,767 general and 5,925 service), while the number of male voters stands to be 75,97,909 (75,83,085 general and 14,824 service).
According to the information available with the website of the Chief Electoral Officer of the State, altogether 15,772 polling stations have been readied for the purpose, the website stated.
The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections was held in three Lok Sabha Constituencies of the State – Silchar, Karimganj and Autonomous District (Diphu) on April 16. ASSAM TRIBUNE
Holiday from April 22 to 24 for polls

GUWAHATI, April 21 – The State Government has declared local holiday on April 22, 23 and 24 in the areas falling within the jurisdiction of parliamentary constituencies of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Guwahati, Mangaldoi, Tezpur, Nagaon, Kaliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur in view of the second phase of Lok Sabha polls to be held on April 23. On these dates, all State Government offices and educational institutions will remain closed.
Further, holiday on April 23 under the NI Act will also be applicable to of all Central Government offices, public sector undertakings, corporations, boards, banks and educational institutions in the areas falling within the jurisdiction of the respective Parliamentary constituencies, an official press release stated.
The State Government has declared April 23 as paid holiday in all factories, plantations (including tea plantations), commercial establishment for public entertainment or amusements and also banking institutions in the areas falling under the respective constituencies. ASSAM TRIBUNE
