Fake currency worth Rs 3.5 lakh seized, three arrested

AGARTALA, Sept 10 – Assam Rifles struck yet another major blow to the roots of the fake currency network active in Tripura as three persons were apprehended with an amount of Rs 3.5 lakh fake Indian notes. All the fake notes were in denomination of Rs 500.

Troops of 14 Assam Rifles have nabbed two bigheads of the counterfeit currency web-Abdul Mazid, Dipankar Dhar alias Bishu and Rajiv Das Raju from North Tripura on Wednesday evening. Raju and Bishu, both managers of the Kanchanpur IOC were caught red handed in their chambers in possession of the fake money, said sources.

The duo was apprehended at the Dupatacherra locality under Kanchanpur subdivision. Abdul Mazid, the third criminal arrested in connection with the issue, is known to have come to Kanchanpur with the fake notes.

The story does indicate towards some bigger fake currency gang inside and outside the state. Anyway, the roots have not been reached yet.

It may be recalled that Assam Rifles had recovered fake Indian notes worth Rs 4, 99,000 in denomination of 500 and 1000 notes from Sobhapur in Sonamura subdivision, close to Bangladesh on September 9.

In course of raid, two persons were identified as Imdad Hussain and Buhur Mian of Sobhapur were arrested for possessing fake notes. Preliminary interrogation indicates, all the fake notes were taken from Bangladesh to sale various parts of the country.

The recovery of fake Indian notes set alarm bell ringing in the law enforcement agencies including state police. Sources said, both the cases related to recovery of fake notes will be handed over to CID for investigation.
