Students interact with Fincke

GUWAHATI, Sept 10 – NASA astronaut Colonel Edward Michael Fincke today visited the Axom Jatiya Vidyalaya at Noonmati here in a bid to talk to students and teachers of the school in an interactive session. The members of the batch of ex-students of the school who took part in the space talk with the NASA astronaut early this year, were also present on the occasion.

Overwhelming enthusiasm and emotion marked the atmosphere in the school. Every one in the school remembered with gratitude and pride the space talk in which the astronaut answered the questions of the students of the school. The school authorities also accorded a rousing welcome to the astronaut and the members of his family.

The present students of the school asked the astronaut 21 questions on various subjects like the disposal of the solid wastes generated in the International Space Station (ISS), life in the space station, the next mission of the astronaut in the ISS, among others.

Rector of the school Prof Ranjit Narayan Deka wanted to know as to what would happen to an astronaut if he or she comes out of the ISS without the space suit. In reply to this question, Colonel Fincke said that the astronaut coming out of the ISS in such a state would perish within 45 seconds.

In the function, mother in-law of the astronaut Prabha (Manju) Saikia was also felicitated by the school authorities, besides Colonel Fincke and his wife Renita Saikia. Renita addressed the students and teachers in Assamese.
