DERGAON,March 4 – In a tragic incident at Kaliyani Firing range under Kamargaon PS in Golaghat district one Lance Nayak died on the spot and five others were injured seriously. According to information, a training on rifle-grenade firing of the 154 trainees of 11th APBn of Dergaon was going on from March 1.And as usual the trainig was also held for today under the guidance of DSP Akhil Ch Das and Inspector Hari Kr Singha.
But at around 5 pm this evening the grenades that were left to fire weren’t ready due to darkness. Suddenly one of them fired and killed the Lance Nayak Dilip Bahoi (37) on the spot while Havildar Mantu Ahmed, Constable Kamal Buragohain, R/C Gagan Baishya, ABSI Dimbeswar Bora and DSP Akhil Ch Das were injured.
Among them the condition of Mantu is stated to be critical. The injured were immediately shifted to NRL Vivekananda Hospital and treatment is going on.
After the incident the Commandant of 11th APBn Abu Sufian along with the other officers rushed to the spot and controlled the necessary arrangement.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Commandant Abu Sufian said that the incident was unfortunate. As the commandant he is also upset as one of his Lance Nayaks was missed by the battalion. The Commandant also ruled out any shortfault of the training in-charge and opined that such incident is rare but not first case of such incident. Assam Tribune
