JORHAT, March 3: With Jorhat being the highest literary district of the State, the unemployment problem turns for the worse in the district as well as the entire state. The conscious circle here has expressed great concern over the Government’s apathy towards the youths in particular who are frustrated with the problem of unemployment mounting by laps and bounds.
As per the official record of the Jorhat employment exchange, there are 82, 396 unemployed registered youths in the entire district. Among the figure, as many as 17,672 are graduates, 20,108 HSSLC passed, 23,530 HSLC passed and 7,798 are litterate. Though the district has registered 5,554 technical unemployed youths, there are many more still to be registered. As per an unofficial account, there are nearly 80,000 unregistered unemployed youths in the district.
It is worth mentioning that the alarming unemployment situation of the district points to a gloomy future. On the other hand, the unemployment problem of the district is likely to adversely affect the economic scenario of the district and the State as a whole.
It may be mentioned here, that the State Government had provided an amount of Rs 50 per month for each unemployed youth but this was abolished in 1996 and since then no unemployed youth gets this aid till date.
It is pertinent to mention here that, due to lack of long term employment policy of the Government, lakhs of youths are confronted with a bleak future. But the Government of the state has yet to take any measures regarding this problem. Moreover, the Chief Minister and other political leaders has turned a deaf ear to this burning problem. Therefore, the people of the entire district sharply criticised the indifferent attitude of the State Chief Minister towards the unemployment problem. The people also failed to understand as to how the ministers of the State Government claims their much touted ‘‘Development in all sides” in spite of offering such a scenario, particularly to the upgrowing youths of the entire state. sentinel assam
