DIPHU, March 4: The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) during its central executive meeting held here today unanimously decided to field Elwin Teron for the Diphu Lok Sabha seat. The 50-year old Elwin Teron is a postgraduate in International Politics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and a prolific and renowned writer from this region.
The crucial ASDC central executive meeting, which began at noon today, concluded in the afternoon amid rupturous sloganeering as the beaming nominee accompanied by senior party leaders emerged from the party office to address a press conference.
A regional party based in Karbi Anglong and NC Hills, the ASDC has been demanding implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution since 1986. Teron today reiterated the party’s commitment to contest the ensuing parliamentary election on the two main issues of immediate granting of Autonomous State status to the two hill districts and a respectable, logical and peaceful conclusion to the ongoing insurgency problem to ensure rapid progress in the hill districts.
