KOHIMA, March 4 – The Congress in Nagaland has decided not to participate in the ‘Naga consultative meet’ organised by the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland to push forward the ongoing Naga peace process scheduled to be held here from March 5 to 7.

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has endorsed the decision of its Legislature Party to stay away from the Meet organized by the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland PAC. The three day-long meet wherein non-resident Nagas from US, UK, Australia, Korea and Japan, etc will attend besides underground and over ground Naga leaders.

The meeting will begin with the Chief Minister’s keynote address while on March 6, representatives from Naga underground factions will present various papers followed by interactions on reconciliation process and Naga movement basing on ground realities.

Apart from the reasons cited by the CLP leader Chingwang Konyak for its decision not to attend the meet, the NPCC pointed out that the PAC of the ruling DAN is only a political affairs committee.

The NPCC president KV Pusa talking to The Assam Tribune said that they have not even disclosed the agenda of the meeting. How can we attend a meeting where we do not even know what they are going to discuss and decide? He questioned.

The Congress, however, wishing all success to the forthcoming meet said its stands for Naga unity, reconciliation and peace process and an early and honorable political solution for all section of the people.

The long-drawn Naga political problem has to be resolved through peaceful and democratic means but the State Government has failed to take Congress into confidence before conceptualizing the proposed meeting. A major political party like the Congress has been kept in the dark, which amounts to ignoring it as a whole, the Opposition Congress alleged. Assam Tribune
