Deputy CM to lodge FIR to trace Health Minister

SHILLONG, March 12: Deputy Chief Minister and Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) president Hopingstone Lyngdoh will file an FIR to trace his party member and Meghalaya Health Minister Dr Adviser Pariong. Dr Pariong, who quit his cabinet post, has gone missing from Wednesday night.

“Since he is missing without the party knowing where he has gone, I am contemplating to file an FIR with the police,” Lyngdoh told reporters today.

According to Lyngdoh, Dr Pariong remained untraceable. He said the last time he saw him was at the party meeting last evening at his residence to finalize HSPDP’s Lok Sabha nominee Rev PBM Basaiawmoit.

Dr Pariong had gone missing after he suddenly submitted his resignation from the Cabinet on Wednesday night. The MPA Government is trying to locate the HSPDP legislator in view of the ongoing political hiccups of resignations. Soon after the resignation of Urban Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh, Dr Pariong had also resigned from the MPA Coalition Government stating, “The developments that have taken place in the last few days have compelled me to take this decision keeping in mind the interest of the State in general and my people in particular.”

The ongoing political hiccups were brought in by the defection of two independent legislators- Limison D Sangma and Ismail R Marak, besides the Urban Affairs Minister and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) president Paul Lyngdoh, to the Congress fold. Dr Pariong’s unexplained disappearance has further compounded problem which continued to be piling on the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh reiterated that the HSPDP will continue to be part of the ruling MPA and said, “I am not going to betray the MPA Government and will not cross over to the Congress camp.” The HSPDP that has two legislators, is one of the important ally in the NCP-UDP-led MPA Coalition Government in Meghalaya.
