Restrain government, says Opposition

SHILLONG, March 12: The Opposition has asked State Chief Electoral Officer P Naik to restrain the government from coming out with its plans, programmes and financial involvements during the coming Budget session. In a letter to Naik today, opposition leader DD Lapang said since the Model Code of Conduct is in force and the election office needs to prevent the government’s intention to spell out its achievement would influence the voters of the State to the advantage of the ruling party, he said. The matter needs to be clarified and looked into judiciously as per the Election Code of Conduct,” Lapang said.
