Last rites attended of ATTSA members

DIBRUGARH, June 10: Hundreds of people attended the last rites of the five ATTSA members, who were cremated near Sessa River here yesterday.

The student leaders were killed in a road accident at Tezpur on June 7. The driver of the vehicle also lost his life. The secretary and president of Dikom unit of ATTSA, Binanda Patar and Narayan Das, president of the Dikom Sessa unit, Samu Patar, the assistant secretary of Dibrugarh unit, Ajit Munda, and ATTSA member, Papan Kurmi, were travelling to Dibrugarh after participating in a meeting of the organization at Lakhimpur when the incident happened.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to the organization’s office at Dikom, where people congregated to pay their last respects. The Water Resource Minister, Prithibi Majhi, Zila Panchayat president, Meena Teli, the president and secretary of ATTSA, Prahlad Gowala and Pallabloshan Das respectively, also offered their last respects.

The Dikom, Bokel, Chaulkhowa, Bokpara and Jalan South tea gardens did not function at all yesterday. Meanwhile, the Asom Chah Mazdoor Sangha also expressed deep grievance over the untimely deaths of the ATTSA leaders. A condolence meeting was held at the main office of the organization yesterday under the chair of secretary in-charge, Dileswar Tanti. THE SENTINEL
