Central team assessing drought situation in Nagaland

KOHIMA, Sept 16: An inter-Ministerial Central Team, led by S C Gargh, Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Agriculture, is visiting Nagaland to assess and take stock of the prevailing drought-like situation in the State.

According to a release issued here today by the Project Director of Drought Monitoring Cell Dr Vesapra Tinyi, the team, which included Dr S K Biswas, Directorate of Jute Department Y C Sharma, Union Ministry of Finance, B P Nagar, Department of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and S Talikdar, Planning Commission, who arrived on Monday, held meeting with the Nagaland Agricultural Department officials and Chief Secretary Lalthara yesterday.
The Nagaland Government officials presented reports on the drought situation in various parts of the State.

Following the meeting, an interactive session with the Central team was also held.
The meeting was attended by Home Commissioner Mathung Kithan and Commissioner Secretary of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Sericulture Thangi Manen.
The Central team will visit various districts to assess the ground situation, which would be followed by another meeting with the Central team by the official of Agriculture and allied departments. (UNI)
