Telecom services disrupted in Tripura

AGARTALA, Sept 16: More than 70,000 mobile phones and 10,000 broadband connections of the State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) have been inoperative since last three days, enraging both the consumers as well as the State government.

Information Technology Minister Tapan Chakraborty, today alleged that the BSNL authority was not taking any satisfactory action to upgrade tele-communication service despite repeated request from the State government and the Assembly.

The matter was taken up with the Telecommunication Ministry as well as the regional authority for ensuring a stable and uninterrupted service in the State, he said. “BSNL introduced all modern communication means including mobile and broadband even in remotest part of Tripura, but their service have deteriorated in the last few months,” Chakraborty said.

“The private service providers have become more reliable in most cases,” he stated. He also pointed out that the work-culture in BSNL offices had declined drastically in Tripura recently besides, service quality, public relations activities and response to the public grievances and complaints, have became a serious concern.

The State government had always been extending support to BSNL for expansion of their service, but most of the far-flung subdivisions were not getting satisfactory tele-communication service for long time and recently it was badly hit in the State capital and the district headquarters too, Chakraborty added.
