NEW DELHI, Oct 15: The Centre should immediately expedite infrastructure development in Arunachal Pradesh to ensure better surveillance over Chinese activities, said MP from Arunachal Pradesh Takam Sanjoy.
In a press conference today, Sanjay said, “The Government of India should expedite development of infrastructure all along the border with China in the interest of security of the nation. India should not forget the past, and the international border with China should get more attention along with the other border areas.”
Sanjoy further said the Chinese forces have made several incursions into the State in the recent months. “We request the Centre to strengthen the existing infrastructure in the forward locations to ensure better surveillance and preparedness,” he added.
Meanwhile, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday brushed aside Chinese claims over Arunachal Pradesh saying that Arunachal Pradesh was like any other Indian States. Gandhi made the remark when journalists wanted his reaction on China’s protest against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Arunachal Pradesh.
Sanjoy said Chief Minister Darjee Khandoo and parliamentarians from the State will meet the Prime Minister Manmoham Singh on Monday to demand better infrastructure in the bordering State.
When asked, the MP said the Dalai Lama is the spiritual leader of the world and he should be allowed to visit any part of India. He said China has no reason to oppose the proposed visit of the Dalai Lama to Tawang. He said thousands of Buddhists are living in Arunachal Pradesh and they are eagerly waiting for the visit of the Dalai Lama and his visit should not have any ramification on the relations between India and China. He further said that the Dalai Lama had visited in Arunachal Pradesh earlier three times, in 1963, 1999, and 2003. THE SENTINEL
