Himanta inaugurates Science Congress

SIVASAGAR, Oct 13: The State-Level National Children’s Science Congress was inaugurated at a meeting held at the Sivasagar Natya Mandir today. The Congress is being held in Sivasagar from October 12 to 15 with the focal theme “Planet earth-our home, explore, care and shape”. Inaugurating the Congress, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the country need adequate manpower with knowledge of basic science, which he hoped would shape the country to become a superpower by 2020. He also urged on the need to change the educational system to make students understand Science and Mathematics in a better way. “Science and Mathematics forms an integral part of scientific research and one can not become a good scientist without adequate knowledge of Mathematics”, Sarma said. Neeraj Verma, Secretary to the Government of Asom, Science and Technology, BC Barbaruah, Joint Secretary, Science and Technology, Dr SK Choudhury, Director, ASTEC, Dr Devi Prasad Dauri, director, Birla Planetarium and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion. More than 600 student delegates including two student scientists from each district of Asom are participating in the Congress. An exhibition-cum-demonstration is also being organized as part of the Congress. THE SENTINEL
