GUWAHATI, Oct 11: With Dhekiajuli and South Salmara constituency elections slated to be held on November 8, 2009, the political parties in the State are leaving no stone unturned to reign supreme in the power game.
As a matter of fact, both the constituencies are lying vacant following the election of Joseph Tappo and Badaruddin Ajmal from Tezpur and Dhubri in the last Lok Sabha elections.
While the AUDF and Congress are engaged in heavy election campaigining, the AGP-BJP alliance seems to be lagging behind.
In fact, no discussion on the election agenda has so far taken place between the AGP-BJP alliance.
The coordination committees of both the parties are slated to meet tommorow at the AGP’s office in the Assam Secretariat to finalize the election agenda.
Sources said there are high chances of the AGP contesting in Dhekiajuli, while the BJP may settle down with South Salmara. Though, the BJP is not keen on contesting from South Salmara as it is a minority-dominant area and chances of their winning in the constituency are slim, sources said. But the BJP might take up the constituency if the AGP back outs.
While, the seat sharing is yet to be finalized between both the parties, internal politics in the AGP has steamed up with three candidates seeking a party ticket for the South Salmara constituency. These include: Joseph Tappo’s daughter Ranjita Tappo, Apurva Bhattacharjya and Siva Sihu. THE SENTINEL
