Guwahati, Oct 4: Extending support to Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, the Sadou Assam Karmachari Parishad (SAKP) lauded the deadline of October 15 set by the Chief Minister and condemned the pay commission for delay in submitting its report.
A steering committee meet of the SAKP was held today to discuss the matter. Reacting on the failure of the pay commission to submit its report, Secretary General of SAKP Basab Kalita said, ‘‘Even after seeking two extensions of three months and one month each, the commission has failed to submit its report so far. This is quite unfortunate’’. As a result, the State employees are the worst sufferers, he said.
As a matter of fact, the Sixth Pay Commission was set up in May 2008 under the chairmanship of former Secretary in the Union Government, Bhaskar Baruah.
The Commission was set up to recommend revision of salaries for the State Government employees at par with the Centre and was slated to submit its report within a year. But even after seeking extension of time on two occasions, the panel has so far failed to come up with its report. THE SENTINEL
