DIBRUGARH, Nov 6: The All Dibrugarh District Scheduled Caste Students’ Union (ADDSCSU) has called a 12-hour Dibrugarh district bandh on November 10 from 5 am to 5 pm in protest against the Government’s failures to solve their various problems.
In a statement issued to the press, the president and general secretary, Jayanta Das and Dipak Das respectively, expressed their deep resentment over the State Government’s apathy towards the genuine problems of the scheduled castes of the State. They alleged that, the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had failed to initiate any steps towards their solution. "Gogoi has failed to keep the promises made by the Congress through its election manifesto", the ADDSCSU office-bearers stated. Referring to non-releasing of financial assistance for scheduled caste students for the year 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 from the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department till today, the ADDSCSU claimed that the students of the community have been facing lots of problem. The students of the community are also deprived of their scholarship, the statement added.
Castigating the Gogoi led Congress Government in the State for its utter failure in containing the steep price-hike of the essential commodities despite protest lodged by several organizations including ADDSCSU, the scheduled caste students’ organization appealed all in general and other ethnic organizations to make the bandh a great success.
