SHILLONG, Nov 8 – The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is increasing its LPG bottling capacity in the North-east from 258,000 metric tonnes to 3,60,000 metric tonnes per annum in the next three months.
“Currently we are in the process of doubling the capacity of the two bottling plants in Guwahati. Besides, upgradation of other plants in the region is also being done. We are ensuring that the plants in the region are at par with any other latest plant in the country,” IOC general manager (NE) A Pradhan said.
The upgradation work is being done at an estimated cost of Rs 460 lakh and is expected to be competed by March 2010.
Revealing that the LPG consumption in the region was “nominal” as compared to rest of the country probably due to availability of other fuels like coal, Pradhan said the IOC has introduced a computer-based system to check “diversion” of domestic LPG cylinders to commercial institutions. “It has been brought to our notice that commercial institutions were using domestic cylinders. To check this black-marketing we have introduced a computer-based uploading system inthe outlets,” he said. – PTI
