GUWAHATI, Nov 3: Keeping up the commitment to Assam of bringing in peace and harmony in the State, Red Horns Division has organized a tour for 20 children hailing from Baksa, Barpeta and Nalbari districts to the famous Hill State of Uttarakhand. Colonel Anupam Shrimali, Commanding Officer 3 Kumaon (Rifles) flagged off the tour appropriately named as– National Integration Tour. This tour will take the children to the State of Uttarakhand, where scenic beauty equals that of Assam. PC Gohain, Deputy Commissioner, Baksa was also present on the occasion.
The selected children represent a cross-section of the Assamese society. Travelling together to other parts of the country will assist in bridging the gap in the society crystallized on the basis of caste and tribes. The young impressionable minds will learn to co-exist and emulate the example of development and prosperity through harmony. The children will get an opportunity to witness exploitation of natural beauty through tourism, a lesson they would carry home for their homeland whose abundance of scenic beauty is unsurpassed. Children would get an opportunity to visit the zoo in Nainital, enjoy the serene Naini Lake in boat and will get a bird’s eye view of Nainital during their journey in Cable Car– ‘Uddan Khotola’. The children will get an opportunity to spend a night in Sainik School, Ghorakhal. The visit to the Sainik School will motivate them to prepare hard to join Army. The group would also be visiting Ranikhet, a hill station and the home of the Kumaon Regiment. They will visit The Kumaon Regimental Centre, museum and golf ground. They would also get an opportunity to interact with the Commandant of the Kumaon Regimental Centre. The children will also be shown General BC Joshi Army Public School, a renowned school of the region during their visit to Pithoragarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Anupam Shrimali, Commanding Officer 3 Kumaon (Rifles) complimented the students for their enthusiastic participation and extolled them to utilize the knowledge gained during the tour to spread the word of unity, integrity and brotherhood amongst their peers. PC Gohain, Deputy Commissioner, Baksa complimented the unit for taking up the unique tour. He said that, such tours will act as a link between the people of Assam and rest of the country.
