KOKRAJHAR, Dec 7: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) today staged a statewide eight-hour hunger strike in the district headquarters demanding fulfilment of their long pending charter of demands.
The president of ABSU Promod Boro led the strike at Tezpur while the general secretary Jiron Basumatary led in Kokrajhar district. In Kokrajhar, the hunger strike was observed at Progati Bhavan. The demands of the ABSU are- creation of separate Directorate for Bodo medium schools, provincialization of all recognized venture schools, appointment of teachers in Bodo medium schools, fill up of all vacant post of the teachers, setting up of SCERT at Kokrajhar, appointment of Bodo elective subject teachers in colleges and halting of killings in BTC, strengthening of law and order in the region, etc.
In an interaction with the mediapersons at Kokrajhar, the general secretary of ABSU Jiron Basumatary said the Government of Assam has been keeping a stony silent over the demands of the ABSU which are legitimate for the improvement of Bodo medium students. The apathy of the Government of Assam towards the Bodo medium becomes a threat to the existence and quality of Bodo medium students in Assam, he said adding that the ABSU will not sit silent against the partial attitudes of the Government towards Bodo medium but it will be compelled to take more harder steps in near future. the sentinel
