‘AGP opposes creation of Bodoland state’

From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 15: Coming down heavily against the charges of Opposition parties upon the BPF for turmoil in BTC, the chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary yesterday said that it was the AGP in Assam which opposed the creation of separate state of Bodoland and still they are opposing it.

Mohilary in a press meet held at the Deborgaon Block BPF office yesterday evening said the mass rally of the opposition parties at Kokrajhar recently against the killings and other violent activities in BTC region and subsequent attack on BPF and BTC chief was a matter of shame for the AGP and BPPF. He said, it was the AGP which is the biggest opposition for creation of separate state of Bodoland and killed several hundreds of people through secret killers in Assam. He also criticized the president of BPPF Rabiram Narzary and former Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma for making an ally with the AGP which, according to him, is the betrayer for the Bodos. The Bodo people never forgot the role of the AGP during the Bodoland movement and their stiff oppositions, Mohilary said adding that right from former Chief Minister Prafulla Kr Mahanta and AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary, they are the prime opposition for creation of separate state of Bodoland and their voices against the issue in Kokrajhar is very unfortunate for the Bodos. Replying to a question, Mohilary said there is no need to come out from the BTC chief and denounce the BTC accord to place the demand for the creation of separate state of Bodoland but he will place the demand staying with the Government and fulfil the aspirations of the people of the region. He said, the BPF did not play political drama over the separate state issue but it is the BPPF which is playing game with the issue for the political benefit and the mass rally of the opposition parties in Kokrajhar was nothing but an election centric. He also said, there will be no party in Bodoland to defeat the BPF in the ensuing BTC election despite all the Opposition parties fight unitedly.

Regarding the signing of BTC accord, Mohilary said the accord was not signed by Mohilary himself as his decision but it was the decision of all organizations of the Bodos including ABSU and BSS, etc. He also hoped that the separate state of BTC will be a reality in future as it is the demand of the Bodos, ABSU, BSS, ABWWF and other organizations.
