SILCHAR, Dec 1: After AIUDF tasted defeat in the last Lok Sabha election, the party is showing signs to establish itself afresh in Cachar and Hailakandi after a lull of eight months. Both the district committees had been dissolved following the defeat of party candidates in Silchar and Karimganj constituencies, which comprised of three assembly segments in Hailakandi district.
The Party high command, it was reported, felt that the party was defeated in both the seats due to ego clashes between district-level leaders. This led party supremo Badrauddin Ajmal to dissolve the district units in Cachar and Hailakandi, both incidentally led by two Hindus –– Anup Choudhury and Anil Nath respectively.
However, the AIUDF is now planning to reconstitute the district units. Party working president Hafiz Rasid Choudhury told The Sentinel that party MLAs Moulana Ataur Rahman Majharbhuiya in Cachar and Salimuddin Barbhuiya in Hailakandi had been entrusted with the forming of the ad-hoc committees. He further said that Ajmal would return from Haj on December 3 and would immediately attend the Lok Sabha till December 11.
Choudhury also informed this correspondent that once the party president returns, the first thing they would do was to visit Barak Valley and reconstitute the district committees. Salimuddin, on the other hand, indicated that he would not include the names of those who were against the party during the Lok Sabha election. THE SENTINEL
