ITANAGAR, Dec 9: The Chetwode Motto, the credo of the Academy, engraved on the entrance to the Central Hall, Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, says, “The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.”
Alumni of the Academy, Governor Gen J J Singh have taken it to his heart. Taking up the cause of the State again, the Governor requested the Chancellor of KLE University, Belgaum, Karnataka to help improve the education sector of the State.
Attending as the chief guest of the annual convocation of the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum under KLE University, Gen Singh urged upon the doctors to come to Arunachal Pradesh and conduct free health camps. Pointing that there is acute shortage of doctors in rural areas, he called upon the young doctors to devote some years of their professional lives to work in rural areas.
“By serving in rural areas you would not only be doing good work for the nation but the stint will be a valuable addition to your professional experience. It would also be an opportunity for you to know your country more closely,” he said and offered open invitation to any specialized medical practitioner to Arunachal Pradesh.
Responding to the request, Chancellor KLE University Prashakar Kore agreed to conduct free camps in the State. He further informed that they are ready to provide free heart surgeries to poor patients of the State and offered that any serious heart case may be referred here. The medical fraternity of the institution also assured to hold free camps, especially for cleft cases and other medical awareness campaigns.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum has 46 years of distinguished academic record to develop high standards of medical education in the country. The KLE Society and University have rendered a sterling contribution in the field of education since 1916. It is now known for its comprehensive facilities for teaching, research and patient care.
Earlier, in the day, Gen Singh, who is also a Honourary Colonel of the Maratha Light Infantry, visited its Centre, which is located at Belgaum. He was given a ceremonial guard on his arrival. As tradition, Gen Singh paid homage to the martyrs. The former chief of Indian Army donated twenty of his medals to the infantry awarded to him during his illustrious service in the Army.
