ITANAGAR, Dec 9: Education Minister Bosiram Siram has literally shown private publications the door to facilitate re-entry of NCERT books for school curriculum in the State.
Inaugurating the annual sports week of Palin Higher Secondary School in Kurung Kumey district today, Siram informed that, in its first step towards revamping the education system, the government had decided to do away with private publications and reintroduce NCERT books at all levels. He said that necessary legislation will be brought in shortly in the education sector and sought cooperation from all, including student unions in the Government’s endeavour.
Admitting that there were anomalies and problems in the education department, Siram expressed the hope that, with support from every section of the society, they would be sorted out soon.
On his maiden visit to Kurung Kumey as the Education Minister, Siram called upon the students to maintain discipline and make best use of whatever opportunities they got.Responding to a memorandum submitted by the Students Union of the school, he replied in affirmation that the posting of senior teachers in science will be done at the earliest. Regarding infrastructure development, he promised that necessary funds would be provided in consultation with the local MLA.
On his part, the local MLA, Takam Tagar assured that the problems of the school would be taken up on priority. He however, urged the students and the school authorities not to depend on the government for every little thing but resolve problems at their own levels.
AAPSU president Takam Tatung, a special guest of the occasion, requested the education minister to immediately bring the necessary legislation for defining the education policy of the State. He also drew the attention of the minister to large-scale encroachment of school lands all over the state, particularly in Palin. He also pleaded with the minister not to upgrade schools for the sake of up gradation on political considerations.
ANSU president Niglar Veo lamented that the root cause of deteriorating academic condition is due to the excess posting of teachers in district headquarters and the State capital. Both the students’ leaders endorsed the memorandum submitted by the school students union of Palin and the initiative taken by the Education Minister for the introduction of NCERT book.
The chief guest contributed an amount of Rs 20,000, the guest of honor Rs 40,000 and the special guest Rs 10,000 respectively to the organizing committee for the successful celebration.
