NUMALIGARH, Dec 9: A two-day National seminar on ‘Hydrocarbon Industry Growth- Prospects and Challenges in Northeast’ was organized by PETROTECH Society in collaboration with Numaligarh Refinery Limited on December 8 and 9 at Numaligarh. This was the 19th Academia Industry Interface which PETROTECH Society had organized with an endeavour to bring the teaching faculty of technical institutes and universities of the Northeast and the practising managers in the oil industry together to share their knowledge, experiences and expertise in various aspects of the hydrocarbon industry so as to update the same to match the best the world over. The inaugural session of the seminar was presided over by Dr BK Das, MD NRL, as the chief guest in the presence of a host of dignitaries like– Dr KP Rao, Director, North East Institute of Science and Technology, JL Raina, Secretary General and CEO, PETROTECH Society, Dipak Chakravarty, Director (Technical) NRL, N Bhakta, Director (Finance) NRL and D Ghosh, GM (Ops) NRL. Domain and technical experts from oil sector companies like ONGC, IOCL, BPCL presented their papers at the seminar which was attended by 81 delegates comprising of 36 Professors and lecturers from various institutes in the Northeast and 45 practising managers from various oil companies.
PETROTECH Society was conceived by distinguished members representing the entire spectrum of the hydrocarbon industry. As on date, it has 31 Corporate members and 11 associate members. The Governing Council of PETROTECH is well represented by major private and public sector oil companies and multinationals. Some of the main objectives of pare to provide a forum for National and International experts in the oil and gas industry to exchange views and share their knowledge, expertise and experiences, to identify and explore new areas for co-operation and technology transfer relating to the petroleum industry and to find ways to assimilate and harness the petroleum resources of the world for the benefit of mankind. PETROTECH Society besides holding the biennial International Oil and Gas Conference in the PETROTECH Series also conducts seminars and workshops on various topics pertaining to the oil industry. PETROTECH Society also operates M Tech and Phd fellowships and awards five research scholarships per year for research in the Petroleum Sector leading to a Phd degree.
The valedictory session of the seminar was held today and was chaired by Dipak Chakravarty, Director (Technical) NRL, with distinguished panellists such as G Bhanumurthy, ED IOCL Guwahati Refinery, Subroto Ghosh, ED (AOD) IOCL, Digboi Refinery and D Ghosh, General Manager (Ops), NRL.
