Singh serves Arunachal to NRIs on a platter

ITANAGAR, Dec 2: “Arunachal Pradesh is the land of peace-loving, patriotic and sincere people and is on the path to become the power-house of the country,” offered Governor Gen (Rtd) J J Singh to the NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) and PIOs (People of Indian Origin) while presenting the Bharat Samman Award to Sir Anerood Jugnauth, President of Mauritius, at a function organized by NRI Institute, New Delhi yesterday. Presenting the prestigious award Singh lauded the initiatives taken by the Mauritius Government on the economic front in his country and attributed the ‘economic miracle of the 1980s’ in the country to Sir Jugnauth’s tireless efforts.

Singh, while highlighting the potentials of Arunachal Pradesh, urged upon the NRIs to supplement the efforts of various agencies towards the socio-economic development of the State. He dwelt at length on various little-known facets of the State like the multiplicity of tribes, prevalence of Hindi as the medium of communication, the long international border etc.

“The Indian diaspora represents exceptional talents and it should continue to fulfill its duties towards the motherland,” he said.

The NRI Institute is a non-profit organization of People of Indian Origin founded in 1989 as a platform to promote and facilitate NRI investments in India. It has chapters in more than twenty-five countries. The Institute regularly recognizes and awards the exceptional achievements of NRIs and PIOs in their chosen field of activity.

Several eminent dignitaries including Bhishma Narayan Singh (former Governor of Tamil Nadu), G. Krishnamurthy (former Election Commissioner of India), Joginder Singh (former Director CBI), Mukeshwoor Choonee (High Commissioner of Mauritius in India) and S K Pachauri (Chairman, NRI Institute) were present during the occasion.

During the programme, the Governor also gave away the Pride of India Gold Medals to several renowned personalities. THE SENTINEL
