JORHAT, Dec 27: Participating the 30th biennial meet of Deuri Sahitya Sabha (DSS) as chief guest in the open session Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that, the ethnic tribes of Assam should maintain the unity and integrity among the groups for their keen interest of development. Only the unity among the tribes would help us to achieve the goals of all round development in the State. Therefore, the ethnic tribes of Assam should try to maintain the unity instead of division in the State. Gogoi also said that, his Government is always worried over the dilemmas plagued by the ethnic groups. “We have taken up various measures like publication of textbooks including tribal languages and formation of autonomous bodies for the interest of tribal groups,” he added. Gogoi also announced rupees two lakh for DSS and rupees five lakh for the construction of a Deuri cultural centre in his speech.
The 30th biennial conference of Deuri Sahitya Sabha (DSS) gets under way at Abison Deuri Kshetra, upper Deuri, Jorhat with a three-day long programme beginning from December 25. More than five thousand people of Deuri community from various quarters of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will grace with their presence in the conference. Deuri Sahitya Sabha president Nripen Deuri presided over the meet held on the occasion.
Earlier, the programme was started with the hoisting of flag by DSS president Nripen Deuri followed by smriti tarpan by prominent litterateur Chandrasing Deuri. Jorhat Deputy Commissioner LS Changsan inaugurated the cultural function took out with traditional gaiety. Two souvenirs titled- Chigachi and Midku were also released in the programme. Noteworthy, the opulence beauty of the traditional culture and customs of the tribal community increased the fascination of the conference. THE SENTINEL
