Online system in Dhemaji to keep track of students

DHEMAJI, Feb 18 – The next time any child in Dhemaji decides to bunk his or her classes, he or she can expect the district administration officials knocking at the doors any time, thanks to an online tracking system which the flood-ravaged district of Assam has adopted to overcome the school dropout menace within a year.

Arguably the first of its kind endeavour in the education sector of Assam, the online tracking system is expected to keep a thorough track of each child’s performance on a monthly basis after being admitted in the school.

A similar online tracking system would be put in place in the health sector as well, with an aim to achieve 100 per cent immunisation very soon.

The online systems are prepared in such a way that it would pinpoint the subject, be it a woman who skips immunisation routine, or a child who ceases to attend his or her classes under the Sarva Siksha Abhijan.

The district administration is now preparing an online database, taking a cue from a US-based model with an aim to fix accountability in the education and health sectors.

Dr P Ashok Babu, Deputy Commissioner, Dhemaji, while talking to The Assam Tribune, said, “The online system would help us in tracking down the subject and take necessary measures to get them back in the right track. The system is in place and it would operational very soon.

“As far as the education sector is concerned, we have also decided to attach photographs of each student in the database, which would help the administration to zero in on the subject at the earliest,” he said.

He further informed that around 8,000 school students are attending academic classes under three educational blocks in the district in different stages, including the Bridge Schools. “We are laying special stress on human resource indicators and have also involved local influential persons like gaonburhas with additional responsibilities,” said the DC.

This, apart from helping in addressing the two burning issues of the State, would also help in fixing responsibility on the ground-level workers of the education and health sectors like the ASHA members and the officials of Sarva Shiksha Abhijan. source: assam tribune
