Bomb blast on railway track targeting Rajdhani express

DIPHU: A powerful bomb exploded on a railway track in Karbi Anglong district of central Assam early this morning targeting the Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express by suspected KLNLF insurgent group.

None was injured in the blast. The incident occurred five-km away from the town at 1.10 am, just after a security escort engine for checking the tracks passed the area prior to the movement of the Rajdhani express, police said adding that the blast caused a 2.5 feet deep crater on the track.

District Superintendent of police K K Sarma and the senior officials of the Five Rajputana Rifles rushed to the blast site and recovered another powerful improvised explosive devise (IED) on the tracks.

The IED was removed and safely defused at a distance at 5.10 am, the police said.

Meanwhile, the train has been detained at Diphu railway station and the track was being repaired, they said.

The Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KNLF) has been active in violent strikes in the district since March 17 when their unilateral ceasefire called from January one ended.

In the wake of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the KLNLF had submitted a five-point charter to political parties asking to clarify their stands on its demands.
