Centre releases Rs 1.22 crore for KNP tiger project

GOLAGHAT, March 16 – The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) authority disclosed that the Central Government had recently released an amount of Rs 1.22 crore to the KNP through the State Government under Project Tiger.

The released funds would be spent on allowances to the employees of the Forest Department, repair of dilapidated roads and bridges, installation of transit camps etc.

An amount of Rs 11 lakh would be utilised in granting allowances to the forest employees. The remaining amount of the total fund would be spent in infrastructural development of KNP.

The director of the national park would utilise the fund in salary payment, besides Rs 800 as allowance to himself. The DFO would receive Rs 700, while Rangers will get Rs 500 and Rs 400 by foresters. Other forest employees would get Rs 350 each. The other amount of Rs 15 lakh would be utilised in mobile patrolling and Rs 20 lakh would be utilised in purchasing arms and ammunition, Rs 10 lakh would be spent in forest employees training, construction of a forest camp and three bridges.

In addition to the above, 10 km roads would be constructed inside the park.It may be mentioned here that tigers have over the years killed or maimed many animals in the neighbouring areas of KNP. As compensation for the lost cattle and besides other damages, the KNP authority had requested the Government to release funds, but to no avail till date.
