GUWAHATI, March 16 – Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today inaugurated the second convention of All Assam Federation of Municipal Service Associations at the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) premises in the city.
Speaking on the occasion, Gogoi said that the employees and workers of the municipal and other urban local bodies will have to work with utmost sincerity and dedication to make the bodies more effective.
“One has to work with utmost sincerity towards revenue generation to make municipal corporation, municipal boards and town committees economically vibrant. The government cannot bail them out all the time as it has its own limitations. It is the workers and the employees who will have to put efforts to generate more revenue through a planned manner,” he said.
Acknowledging the fact that the municipal and other urban local bodies are plagued with problems, the Chief Minister said that one has to find out ways to overcome the problems.
He exhorted the workers and the employees to develop a work culture that would help the civic bodies to become self-reliant in long run. Vice chairman of the State Planning Board, Sarat Borkatoky, parliamentary secretary Ajit Singh and general secretary of the INTUC, Assam branch, Hiranya Bora also spoke on the occasion. The general secretary of the Municipal Service Association submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
