GUWAHATI, April 20: As many as six people, including five security personnel, were killed in attacks by the DHD-J militants in NC Hills district today. The militants took arms from the dead jawans and fled.
According to sources, heavily armed DHD-J militants started indiscriminate firing on 16 cement-laden trucks between Umrangshu and Lanka killing five security personnel and a truck driver on the spot. The dead have been identified as Assam Police havildar Sahid Ali, sepoy Akash Ali, sepoy Ramen Saikia, sepoy Gholam Hussain and truck driver Mangal Singh.
The security personnel also retaliated the firing but the militants escaped by taking the arms of the dead jawans.
After the incident, a group of DHD-J militants attacked a team of Assam Rifles jawans near Gunjung in the hill district. No report of casualty is received in the firing.
The Army, on the other hand, busted a DHD-J camp near Mahur in the district. THE SENTINEL
