Assam Election
JORHAT, April 20: ‘In the ongoing General Election 2009, the Asom government has collected huge funds from the capitalist and as a result the poor people have been punched by the skyrocketing prices of essential commodities’, alleged Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Jorhat district unit here today.
Protesting this sordid exercise of the state government, the activists of the students body also burnt the effigy of the state government and warned the government in power to take immediate remedial measures to ward off the problem at the earliest. The students body alleged that, at a time when all the political parties have been trying to abuse each other with their hectic speeches to handle the power, the poor people have suffered unfortunate price hike of the essential commodities in the entire state. They also said that, a section of politicians have allegedly used money power, man powers and media groups by taking the advantage of government influence for which an acute political flux have covered the state badly.
Terming it as a horrific signal for the nation, Jibokanta Bora and Siva Kalita president and secretary respectively of the Jorhat AJYCP unit informed that, the government has turned a deaf ear to the repeated pleas of the student body placed from time to time.
They further alleged that, now a days the politics has become a profitable business for a section of people and they always use it for their personal benefits. The collection of funds from capitalists for electioneering is a significant sign of it, they added.
In the protest programme, Nripen Rajkhowa, Central executive of AJYCP, Jatiya Mahila Parishad and the members of other regional unit of the students body participated. THE SENTINEL
