Sonia addresses poll rally in Silchar

HAILAKANDI, April 13
– Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today appealed the people of Barak Valley to root out the communal forces in order to maintain the peace. Addressing an election rally in Silchar’s India Club Ground, Sonia termed the AGP-BJP alliance a destructive and anti development. She said that they will never be successful in Assam politics as the people of Assam want peace. She said that the Assam Accord was signed by her husband Late Rajiv Gandhi for the peace of Assam.
She said that Assam is now boiling due to the communal and anti-people forces and urged the people to teach them a lession by electing the Congress candidates in all the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the State. Sonia praised both Manmohan Singh and Tarun Gogoi. The meeting was attended by about 2,500 people.
Her twenty minutes lecture was mainly based on the good performance of Manmohan and Gogoi. The rally was presided over by the APCC-I president Bhubaneswar Kalita and was addressed by the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and the candidate of Silchar Lok Sabha constituency, Santosh Mohan Dev.
